Scott Cook

In 2007, Albertan songwriter Scott Cook quit his job teaching kindergarten in Taiwan and moved into a minivan. He’s made his living as a troubadour ever since, touring almost incessantly across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, and releasing seven albums of plainspoken, keenly observant verse along the way. The Two Tracks

Dave and Julie Huebner of “The Two Tracks” will be joining us for Storyhill Fest 2023! They write songs that traverse the male and female perspective with emotional and natural images of rural American life. The band cares about lyrics, story, the power of the song as much as the music itself, and every arrangement is designed to fully highlight that direct connection between the song and the listener. Hailing from the eastern side of the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming, the band has traversed the country bringing their joyful, unique sound to stages big and small, including, Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival (CA), MeadowGrass (CO), Albino Skunk Music Festival (SC), Red Ants Pants Music Festival (MT), Beartrap Summer Festival (WY), , Music on the Mothership (NM), Oystergrass (WY), and The LAWN (CO), to name a few. They recently completed their first international trip, traveling to Dubai for performances at the World Expo. Glide Magazine says: ““Great vocals, strong lyrics, and glorious harmonies. More than anything, though, it’s the sheer joy of making music that comes through.”

Vance Gilbert

Vance burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 1990’s when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking ‘em dead at open mics. Word of the Philadelphia-area bred performer quickly spread to New York city. Then Shawn Colvin invited Gilbert to be a special guest on her Fat City national tour. Vance Gilbert took audiences across the country by storm. 13 accomplished albums later, Vance continues to refine his unlikely union of humor, virtuosity, and the unexpected. Whether the classic, original songwriting or ageless interpretations of covers, his is a presentation steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul, and contagious, unbridled joy – inarguably the blue ribbons that tie and seal the seemingly impossible package that is Vance Gilbert. “If Joni Mitchell and Richie Havens had a love child, with Rodney Dangerfield as the midwife, the results might have been something close to the great Vance Gilbert.” As the above quote from Richmond magazine suggests, Vance Gilbert defies stereotypes. It’s little wonder then that he also exceeds expectations. In this case, those two qualities go hand in hand. “I’m black, I sing, I play an acoustic guitar, and I don’t play the blues,” Gilbert insists. That may be a broad statement, but it rings with truth.

Nikki Morgan

Nikki Morgan combines captivating melodies with insightful lyrics and delivers them with a voice full of raw passion. Her music is unapologetic in its efforts to grapple with real life; and it elegantly embodies the essence of her “Carolina Soul” style.

As the daughter of a minister and kin to a lot of church folk Nikki grew up listening to traditional gospel/christian music and spent much of her grade school days involved in school band playing clarinet and oboe. But, despite her early exposure to music, it wasn’t until the tender age of 28 when she finally began to start making music of her own.

Nikki was born and raised in North Carolina but Chicago is where she found her first home as a performer and songwriter. Starting out in the open mic scene it didn’t take long for her to garner local support and make her way to some great stages around the midwest: opening for acts such as Jaime Wyatt, Caroline Spence, Boo Ray, and Sean Watkins.

She is a former winner of the awarded Uncommon Ground Songwriting competition; she has been voted as a ‘Judge’s Pick’ in the Nashville Rising Song contest, and recently had her single Love.Save.Me make it to the semi-final round of the International Songwriting Competition.

Nikki finds a way to combine captivating melodies and insightful lyrics with a voice full of raw passion. Her music is unapologetic in it efforts to grapple with real life; and yet elegantly embodies the essence of her “Carolina Soul”.
